You can visit Boulder City from Las Vegas without renting a car. For a first visit, keep the outing downtown: the museum inside Boulder Dam Hotel, lunch, and a walk along Nevada Way. Getting to Hoover Dam is a separate trip.

  • RTC Route 221 serves Boulder City, with connections needed from much of the Las Vegas resort corridor.
  • National Park Express lists a reserved, one-way shuttle from Treasure Island to Boulder Dam Hotel, starting at $25.
  • Choose your return transportation before leaving Las Vegas.

Can you take a public bus from Las Vegas to Boulder City?

RTC Route 221 connects the southern Las Vegas Valley and Henderson with Boulder City. Its Las Vegas Boulevard connection is at Silverado Ranch, south of the main resort corridor. From a Strip hotel, check the connecting routes as well as the 221; this is not a direct hotel-to-downtown bus.

The Route 221 map and timetable show a Boulder City loop through Arizona Street and Nevada Way. The westbound timetable includes Nevada Way and Elm, a useful reference for the trip back. Use the correct weekday, Saturday or Sunday schedule.

Daytime weekday departures are roughly hourly. That makes the bus a better choice for someone happy to spend an unhurried afternoon in town than for a visitor squeezing lunch between timed reservations. Check the whole journey from your hotel, including the return connection, before choosing a departure.

Is there a shuttle from the Strip to downtown Boulder City?

National Park Express offers a one-way shuttle from Treasure Island to the curb outside Boulder Dam Hotel at 1305 Arizona Street. It removes the public-bus transfers for that outbound journey. Choose it when its available departure suits your visit and you have arranged how you will return to Las Vegas.

The downtown shuttle listing starts at $25 and requires advance reservations rather than walk-up boarding. Service is subject to minimum passenger requirements. Select your travel date with the operator before committing to other reservations.

This drop-off is especially convenient for a visit to the Boulder City-Hoover Dam Museum, which is inside the hotel. You can begin with the story of the people who built the dam and settled the town, then head out for lunch.

Where should you spend a car-free afternoon in Boulder City?

Stay in the historic downtown area for a museum visit and nearby dining or shopping. Boulder Dam Hotel houses the museum and has restaurants and shops within walking distance. A short list of downtown stops is more comfortable than trying to reach attractions scattered across town without another ride.

The Boulder Dam Hotel directory entry is also useful if you are considering an overnight stay. Its official hotel site has room information and details about the museum inside.

Choose a few stops from our Boulder City things-to-do guide, then pick lunch from the restaurant guide. Our downtown walking guide explains which outings need a separate ride.

Does Route 221 take you to Hoover Dam?

Route 221 serves Boulder City, not Hoover Dam. The museum inside Boulder Dam Hotel is a downtown history stop, separate from the dam itself. If seeing the dam is the main reason for your trip, arrange transportation that includes it rather than relying on the downtown bus or shuttle.

For a museum-and-lunch visit, downtown gives you plenty to enjoy on foot. Settle the ride home first, then leave time to sit down and eat.
